AQA Psychology A2 Psya3 Sleep And Biological Rhythms Possible Questions June 2014

We next move on to Psya3 Sleep and Biological Rhythms and my predictions for the possible essay questions here.

Again just a reminder that these are merely my own educated guesses based on past questions and what I think will come up – This is NOT a set of predictions for what will come up however so do not bank on these. The best thing to do is make sure you revise everything to be completely safe.

Ok disclaimer out the way.

Also if you need help revising for the Sleep & Biological rhythms topic my revision book here for this topic has all my model essay answers for all the possible questions that can come up based on the specification. These are the same essays I memorised myself and used to score 100 ums in Psya3. I should warn people that Sleep & Biological Rhythms is a hard topic. It has many foreign words, elements of biology and some complicated theories and explanations for concepts you will have little awareness of so the learning curve for it is steep to get your head around. I did find it my hardest topic out of Psya3 and even Psya4. So dont expect a magic pill in learning this topic but my book will help make it easier if you need it (click the book cover image for more info).

Right – On to the predictions.

My Predictions For Possible Essay Questions For Psya3 Sleep And Biological Rhythms – June 2014

Did I mention how much I hate this topic?.

  • Circadian/Ultradian/Infradian Rhythm – Either as a small question for one of these 3 or if its a full essay question it will likely ask you to outline and evaluate one or more biological rhythms as the material may be a little thin for just one.
  • The Nature Of Sleep: Lifespan Changes In Sleep – Full Essay Question.
  • The Role Of Endogenous pacemakers and Exogenous Zeitgebers (possible full essay)

An Explanation For My Psya3 Sleep And Biological Rhythms Predictions

Biological Rhythms Prediction Explained – A full essay question hasn’t come up at all for any of the biological rhythm questions and I think there’s enough material to cover a broad question asking for more than one. It may even ask for one specifically and I think theres enough material especially for a full essay on Circadian rhythms. I’m not so convinced there is for the other biological rhythms so I’m inclined to say it will either be a small parted question, ask a broad question allowing you to use more than one biological rhythm or target circadian rhythms exclusively as a full essay as there’s enough material for that one alone.

The Nature Of Sleep/Lifespan Changes In Sleep Explained – There’s enough material for this and it hasn’t made an appearance since June 2010 which was only a 4 marker question asking about the “Lifespan changes in sleep”. In June 2011 they asked a 9 mark question to “Outline the nature of sleep” and that hasn’t been asked since either. Therefore its due another appearance in some form I would say.

Discuss The Role Of Endogenous Pacemakers In The Control Of One Or More Biological Rhythm Explained – This last appeared in January 2011 as a full essay question. It has not reappeared since despite other essay questions appearing twice after this was last asked (disruption of rhythms appeared June 2011 and June 2013). Other questions which have also made one appearance have also been asked more recently than this question and this one has had a fairly long wait so far. Its long overdue.

So those are my thoughts – What do you think? Hit the like or share button to let your friends know too if you’re doing this topic and spread the good word.
