Next up are my media psychology predictions for PSYA4 retake students sitting the 2017 exam for the old specification. Media was one of my favourite topics mostly because it was so damn easy. With this section you can’t get a single full 24 mark essay unlike PSYA3 but instead you will likely get smaller questions broken down, one or two of which will score the bulk of the marks. Usually the most a single question is worth marks wise is around the 10 mark point for PSYA4 topics.

Just a reminder also that with media psychology and this specific section of the exam you will usually get “application based” questions. These may present to you a scenario where you are required to apply your theoretical knowledge and back it up with research studies too. It is incredibly important that you apply your answers to the scenario presented rather than give a generic answer as you won’t score beyond the basic banding if you dont do this! This is actually quite easy to do as the questions will be based on theory and research you would have revised anyways so it’s simply a case of making reference to the scenario within your learn’t essay to make it fit in with the question itself.

If you need help with this topic for PSYA4 then I would definitely check out my media psychology ebook by clicking the image on the right. It becomes available instantly to download and use so there is no waiting and it covers every possible question you can be asked in the exam with A* grade model essays. These are the same ones I myself used to score 100 ums for unit 4 (as well as all the other Loopa students). This is the last opportunity to retake this old specification so if you are doing this topic and exam I would ensure you use every opportunity you have to nail the exams now as you won’t be able to improve your grades beyond this point without studying the new specification from the beginning ! Don’t risk it is basically the best advice I can offer for retake students as the new specification is much harder to relearn for you!

Media Psychology 2017 Predictions

Below is my predictions table outlining all the questions that have come up. Please note in 2015 there were two versions of PSYA4 sat due to the exam papers being stolen that year and AQA not being able to send out replacements in time to everyone. So in short some schools sat the original stolen paper while others sat a replacement paper which was known as PSYA4R. So when it came to my predictions I had two sets of data to draw from which made things really hard. This continues to make PSYA4 tricky to predict as I cant really say which (if any) exam paper takes precedent (priority) when it comes to predicting future questions. It is therefore always wise to LEARN EVERYTHING just to be safe and use my predictions, as always, simply as a guideline.

There’s about 11 possible questions you can get so let me try narrow down your focus on the ones I would prioritise the most when it comes to revision.

  • The positive/negative effects of video games – this is two essays you need to know and both of these topics havent had much come up for them. I think the positive effects is more overdue personally but only a 4 marker for the negative effects came up (and nothing prior to that for ages) so both need to be revised going into this exam.
  • Psychological explanations for the attraction of celebrity – its well overdue, like ridiculously overdue so maybe its time it made an appearance in this very final exam window? Surely it can’t go through the entire syllabus without making an appearance? For these reasons I would prepare for this one.
  • Research into celebrity worship – only a 4 marker came up in 2015 and it was 2 exam windows prior to that it made an appearance so its a little overdue an appearance.

So these are the topics I would focus on the most but be sure to learn everything to be safe, its never wise going in relying solely on this but hopefully these predictions help you with what is overdue an appearance and what to focus on more.
